God calls all Christ followers into an incredible spiritual adventure! Jesus promised that to know Him is to be united with the Heavenly Father in all His eternal purposes for this world. The work of God is powerfully proceeding, regardless of hostile empires, nations in conflict, or even a global pandemic. How is it possible to be on this adventure with God?
The apostle John spent much of his Gospel documenting the unity of Jesus with His Father. This was the focus of Jesus’ prayer for His followers found in John 17:20-21, “I pray also for those who will believe in me through [the disciples’] message, that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have send me.” You see, the adventure of Jesus is not lived in isolation but in a place of deep unity with God and fellow believers.
Having spent time with Jesus, John learned to shepherd and guide believers who needed to understand how to live the adventure of Jesus with one another. In the opening chapters of the book of Revelation, John delivered Jesus’ messages to seven churches in Asia Minor. These were first Century saints who were following Jesus against great odds. And if we pay attention, we will discover vital lessons for the way in which we should follow God today.
