How long has it been since you were in a departure or arrival lounge? Since travel is currently off the table you might be missing travel by boat, train or plane. Through the month of May, we are going to think about “departure” and “arrival”. But we are not talking about vacation travel. Instead, we are going to explore the amazing departure and arrival which occured between the Resurrection of Jesus and the birth of the Church.
For the first two Sundays we are going to consider John 14 and 16. First, we will see how Jesus declared hope and comfort to His disciples...ironically by assuring them that He would depart this earth. Then we will see how Jesus also promised the arrival of the Comforter, the Holy Spirit. Then we'll shift to see the fulfillment of these promises in the Ascension of Jesus and the coming of the Holy Spirit. On May 16, which is "Ascension Sunday" we will study Acts 1. May 23 is "Pentecost Sunday" so our focus will be on Acts 2.
Is your heart troubled? In these days filled with anxiety and turmoil, Jesus' promises are as real and faith-fortifying now as when He spoke them to His early disciples!
